2007 Wings of Heroes Gala |
Since 2004, Storyteller Communications LLC has produced the major annual fund raising event at Seattle's Museum of Flight , the prestigious Wings of Heroes Gala. The 2007 Gala paid tribute to the X-15 program, the most successful flight research program in aviation history. The event also celebrated the opening of the Museum's new world-class space exhibit, Space: Exploring the New Frontier. Additionally, the Museum acknowledged Charles Simonyi, the most recent space tourist who recently returned from two weeks on board the International Space Station. Fred Radke and the legendary Harry James Orchestra provided the entertainment along with swing dancers from Seattle's Century Ballroom.
430 guests attended the black-tie affair in the Museum's Side Gallery and were treated to an inspirational evening which honored 16 aviation pioneers who participated in the X-15 program. Most of these pioneers had never been publicly acknowledged for their work which pushed the known boundaries of flight to new speed and altitude records during 199 flights from 1959 to 1968. The program also provided knowledge and data of crucial importance to the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo and Space Shuttle programs. Of the 12 pilots who flew the three X-15's out of Edwards Air Force Base in the Mojave Desert, eight flew above the 50-mile mark earning astronaut wings. Of the four living X-15 pilots, three attended the Wings of Heroes Gala in addition to 13 support personnel. One of the three living pilots left the X-15 program early on when he transferred to astronaut status at NASA. Seven years after leaving the X-15 program, he became the first man to land a craft on the moon and the first to set foot on the lunar surface. Former X-15 pilot and NASA astronaut, Neil Armstrong, served as the keynote speaker for the Gala.
Storyteller Communications LLC specializes in producing big fund raising events such as the Wings of Heroes Gala that inspire audiences and exceed fund raising goals through exceptional storytelling.
